A Refreshing Update in Pittstown Family Home
Simple Changes With Stunning Results.
Stepping into this well-loved home in Pittstown, NJ, I was excited to work with this loving family. With children and grandchildren not too far away, this client wanted to refresh their home and create a space that everyone in the family could enjoy together.
I love working on Cosmetic Update projects because it is a chance to take a space that the client already loves and transform it into something fresh and new without breaking the bank. As a designer, I believe there is so much potential in pre-existing furnishings and sometimes all you need is a fresh coat of paint!
Sitting Room Cosmetic Transformation
The first room in the house we focused on was the family room. The natural charm of this room stood out in the exposed beams, high ceilings and stone fireplace. Using the beautiful floral rug as the inspiration for this redesign, we updated the room with new paint on the walls and ceilings, as well as fresh window treatments to frame the space.
The two classic leather armchairs add additional seating to the room and compliment the pre-existing couch. New side tables and accessories help to give the space a fresh feel and complement the rustic aesthetic.
At the foot of the couch, you can see the beautiful coffee table that we incorporated in the design. This piece was an antique that the client owned and had originally been a sled before it was converted into the coffee table! I fell in love with this unique piece and made sure to find a way to repurpose it into the new design of this living room.
An Equestrian's Dream Office
This combination Den and Home Office was one of the most essential rooms in the house as it is where the clients spend most of their time. Since the client comes from an equestrian background, I made sure to incorporate her love of horses into the design of this space.
The new reclining sectional that we added to the room creates a sitting area that is perfect for relaxing with the grandchildren. Recessed lighting helps brighten the room while the new ceiling fan circulates air and keeps the busy room cool.
The coffee table is a repurposed crate that adds some rustic charm that compliments the exposed brick hearth and graphic blue rug.
Elegant Sunroom Build
My favorite room in the house is this stunning sunroom. This part of the house was a new addition, so I worked with the architect to plan the space from beginning to end. We picked doors, window sizes, and matched the flooring to the existing space so the transition from the old part of the house to the new felt seamless.
The wainscoting on the walls was a continuation of the design from the kitchen that the clients fell in love with. Reusing antiques and other existing pieces such as the corner coffee table added a charm and elegance to the space, without adding to the bill.
To keep the feel contemporary and fresh, we added modern style window treatments and beautiful graphic rug, giving the clients a gorgeous place to sit and enjoy the stunning backyard view.
Repurpose, Reinvision, Rejuvenate
Our cosmetic updates continued to the second floor of the house where I transformed the master and guest bedrooms.
This bedroom, designed with the grandchildren in mind, repurposed the green armoire to add a pop of color to the room. The chest was another existing piece from the client that we re-imagined into a window seat to admire the backyard view.
The bed, dressed up with new bedding, was swapped in from another room in the house. Teal and green pillows pop against the new, crisp white window treatments and create an inviting environment the grandkids are sure to love!
